Most Popular Terms on Social Media
BD, BF, BRB, BTW, GF, HBD. No these are not just random strokes of the keyboard - this is the language of Social Media. If you are using Social Media to help promote and grow your brand, it would be a good idea for you to be familiar with terms and acronyms used on Social Media.
Depending on your brand voice, you might not want to incorporate slangs or acronyms at all, but being able to communicate with your demographic in their language is important. Listen to how they are speaking and adapt accordingly.
In order not to make this post TL and result in a DR. Let’s jump into it:

SLANGS
- "SIS," which is used in the same context as "bro" to convey affection towards friends or in place of someone's name which you don't know. "Have you tried the product, sis?". Similarly, "stan" is another affectionate term referring to someone who is in full support of someone or something.
- "Extra" as it sounds - refers to someone who is doing too much or being overly dramatic, characteristically loud or always making themselves seen.
- "Gucci," weirdly enough, doesn't actually refer to the luxury brand but is synonymous with "good" or "fine." Along with this, "Lit" can also be used to refer to something cool.
- “Turnt” - Excitement or fun can be modernly expressed by using the word "turnt," which was formed by compressing the phrase "turned up."
- “Woke” - Wise is a word of the past. When describing someone with a vast accumulation of knowledge, the word "woke" is used instead.
- "On fleek" - Which initially meant anything smooth or sweet, it’s now linked to something that's relatively perfect.
Staying updated with the words of this modern generation poses a challenge to many, but as a business one needs to ensure their content is appealing to everyone including the youth of today who are the commandeers of social media. Stay woke while maneuvering social media and ensure to keep your content on fleek, sis.
